PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS COUNTDOWN

The Client
Discovery+ is an over-the-top streaming platform owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. The service combines programming from different genres, including original productions: Discovery+ Originals reserved exclusively for paying subscribers.
The Challenge
To build excitement for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Warner Bros. Discovery started a countdown 100 days before the Olympic torch finally lights the cauldron in Paris. Our studio was commissioned to develop the countdown, endpage and slate typographic lineup pieces. In addition to interpreting and expanding the existing institutional graphic system designed by the in-house team, we had to include footage of Gianmarco Tamberi: Italian athlete who won the gold medal in high jump at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The Flopicco Studio Approach
To enhance the narrative potential of the resources we had, we decided to make a visual analogy between the countdown and the different moments of a Tamberi’s jump: preparation (day 100), concentration, start of the race, jumping, passing the bar, falling on the bar, getting up and celebrating (days 5 to 0). Leaving the celebration for the days before the start of the Olympic Games.

El reto
Para crear expectación por los Juegos Olímpicos de París 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery inició una cuenta atrás 100 días antes de que la antorcha olímpica encendiera por fin el pebetero en París. Nuestro estudio recibió el encargo de desarrollar la cuenta atrás, la página final y las piezas tipográficas de la pizarra. Además de interpretar y ampliar el sistema gráfico institucional existente, diseñado por el equipo in-house, tuvimos que incluir imágenes de Gianmarco Tamberi: atleta italiano que ganó la medalla de oro en salto de altura en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020.
El enfoque de Flopicco Studio
Para aumentar el potencial narrativo de los recursos que teníamos, decidimos hacer una analogía visual entre la cuenta atrás y los distintos momentos de un salto de Tamberi: preparación (día 100), concentración, inicio de la carrera, salto, paso del listón, caída en el listón, levantarse y celebración (días 5 a 0). Dejando la celebración para los días previos al inicio de los Juegos Olímpicos.
